Declared Extinct African Black Rhinoceros

African black rhinoceros has also recently been declared extinct by the IUCN, Thursday (10/11/2011) ago. This threat is real because, as reported previously, the existing Java rhinos in Vietnam have become extinct.

Recent study by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) declared that all subspecies of rhinos face extinction if no serious conservation measures.

So far, the remaining rhino subspecies is the Javan rhino in Indonesia and northern white rhino in the central region of Africa. Both also face a serious threat.

"The lack of political support for conservation efforts in many rhino habitats, international organized criminal groups rhino poachers, and increased demand for rhino horn, and hunting is a major threat to rhinos," the IUCN stated.

IUCN states, the key to saving species conservation. History has proved that if conservation is done, endangered species can come back victorious.

One example is the Southern White Rhino in the 19th century lived 100 individuals. Serious conservation measures and the right managed to increase rhino population to 20,000 tail current. In addition, the Przewalski horse, a type of horse from Central Asia who had also successfully bred endangered species in captivity.

IUCN Red List now contains 62,000 species of plants and animals that require the attention of government and society so that it can still survive.
